Dongfeng Slashes the Nammi Vigo's Price: New "Full SUV" E2 Lands From Rs 35.99 Lakh
New Launch
MAW Vriddhi has relaunched the Nammi Vigo E2 as a "Full SUV," and the headline is the price. You now get the long-range 350 km Vigo for around Rs 6 to 8 lakh less than before, with the sunroof removed but almost everything else intact. Here is exactly what changed, and why it shakes up the whole segment.
MAW Vriddhi Motors launched the new Nammi Vigo E2 at an event in Kathmandu on August 19. The pitch is simple and effective: full SUV size and range for close to hatchback money. It manages that not by shrinking the car, but by stripping a few features and passing on the post-expo price war, which has been the best thing to happen to Nepali EV buyers this year.
The price is the story
The MRP is Rs 37.99 lakh, with a promotional price of Rs 35.99 lakh tied to the upcoming NADA Auto Show. To put that in context, the outgoing long-range Vigo, the E2+ with the same battery, sold for around Rs 43.99 lakh. So this is roughly a Rs 6 to 8 lakh drop for what is mechanically the same car. That is a genuinely aggressive move.
What you keep, and what you lose
This is the important part. MAW did not cut the things that matter most. The new E2 keeps the larger 51.87 kWh battery and the 350 km WLTP range, so it is not a short-range budget version. It also keeps the 99 kW motor, the 360-degree camera, the Level 2 ADAS suite, the heated and ventilated seats, 167 kW DC fast charging and V2L. Same body, same 190 mm ground clearance, same interior.
What goes, to reach the price, is short: the panoramic sunroof is removed. The car also switches to new 17-inch alloy wheels on Wanli tyres and gains plastic roof rails. That is essentially the whole list of changes. For most buyers, losing a sunroof to save several lakh is an easy trade.
Why this shakes up the segment
At Rs 35.99 to 37.99 lakh, a 350 km electric SUV lands right on top of a lot of cars that suddenly look expensive. It undercuts BYD's new Atto 2 (from Rs 45.95 lakh) and the Leapmotor B03X (Rs 44.99 lakh) by close to Rs 9 to 10 lakh, while offering comparable or better range. And it changes the maths for anyone shopping the entry hatchbacks: buyers looking at the Chery QQ, the ArcFox T1 or the Proton eMas 5 can now step up to a full-size SUV for only a little more.
The one internal tension is Dongfeng's own Nammi Box, which sits in the low-to-mid 30s. With the Vigo now this close, some Box buyers may simply add a couple of lakh for the bigger car. Expect this pricing to force responses from rivals over the coming weeks.
The honest take
For a new buyer, this is close to a no-brainer in its segment. You are getting a proven, well-equipped, long-range electric SUV, one that has been driven to Manang and Mustang, for the price of a small hatchback not long ago. The value is hard to argue with, and first impressions at the launch suggested the interior materials and kit are unchanged from the pricier car.
Two honest caveats. First, spare a thought if you bought a Vigo a few months ago at Rs 43 to 45 lakh, because this relaunch puts you several lakh underwater almost overnight, which is the risk of buying early in a fast-moving EV price war. Second, as always with a keenly priced car, confirm the on-road price after the new tax, the delivery timeline and the warranty terms before you sign. But on value alone, MAW has set a new benchmark, and the rest of the market now has to answer it.
