Day 2 of the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2026 brought another wave of four-wheeler developments to Bhrikutimandap. BYD unveiled its new-generation Atto family, while Hongqi entered Nepal with the E-HS4 and GWM introduced the Haval Jolion Max EV. Leapmotor's B03X and Denza's B5 also added to a day that continued to expand Nepal's electric and electrified vehicle market.
August 12 marked the second day of the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2026 in Kathmandu. After several major launches on the opening day, Day 2 shifted the focus toward newer electric SUVs, premium EVs and plug-in hybrid technology.
One of the biggest developments came from BYD, which unveiled its new-generation Atto lineup in Nepal. The refreshed Atto 1, new Atto 2 Essential and updated 2026 Atto 3 gave the brand a broader range of options across different price points.
Day 2 also saw Hongqi officially enter Nepal with the E-HS4, while Great Wall Motor expanded its electric lineup with the Haval Jolion Max EV. Leapmotor also brought the B03X into the market, and Denza added the B5 plug-in hybrid SUV to the premium end of the exhibition.
Day 2 Four-Wheeler Highlights
BYD Refreshes the Entire Atto Family
The biggest four-wheeler development of Day 2 came from BYD, which unveiled its new-generation Atto series in Nepal.
The update covers the Atto 1 and Atto 3, while BYD has also expanded the Atto 2 range with a new Essential variant. Together, the three models give BYD a broader spread across Nepal's electric SUV and hatchback market.
The updated Atto 1 now gets a 360-degree camera on both Dynamic and Premium variants, while the Premium also adds auto-folding outside rear-view mirrors.
The Atto 1 Dynamic is priced at Rs 30.75 lakh, while the Premium costs Rs 34.80 lakh. The battery capacities remain 30.08 kWh and 38.88 kWh respectively, with claimed WLTP ranges of 230 km and 300 km.
The new Atto 2 Essential creates a lower-priced entry point into the Atto 2 range at Rs 45.95 lakh. It uses a 45.12 kWh battery and has a claimed WLTP range of 312 km.
The existing Atto 2 Premium remains at Rs 48.99 lakh, with its larger 51.13 kWh battery and claimed 345 km WLTP range.
At the top of the refreshed range is the 2026 Atto 3. The updated model introduces BYD's Dynamic Dragon Face design along with changes to the cabin, gear selector and charging convenience. The Advanced variant starts at Rs 62.90 lakh.
Hongqi Enters Nepal With the E-HS4
Day 2 also marked the official arrival of Chinese luxury brand Hongqi in Nepal.
The brand introduced the Hongqi E-HS4, a premium electric SUV positioned as one of the more affordable entry points into the luxury EV segment.
The E-HS4 uses a 67.1 kWh battery and a 160 kW electric motor driving the rear wheels. Its claimed range is up to 420 km under the WLTP cycle.
The SUV also comes with a substantial suite of driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assistance, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot detection, forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking.
At Rs 57.99 lakh under the NAIMA special price, the E-HS4 gives Nepal another premium electric SUV option without moving into the crore-plus price bracket.
Haval Jolion Max EV Brings a Bigger Electric SUV
Great Wall Motor also expanded its presence in Nepal with the Haval Jolion Max EV.
The model was launched at a special NAIMA price of Rs 59.99 lakh, making it one of the more substantial electric SUVs introduced during the expo.
The Jolion Max EV uses a 58.3 kWh battery and produces 150 kW of power and 260 Nm of torque. Its claimed WLTC range is above 400 km.
The SUV also features a 14.6-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with advanced driver-assistance systems.
GWM has positioned the model as a more premium electric SUV, and notably, Nepal is only the second market globally to receive the Jolion Max EV.
Leapmotor B03X Adds Another Electric SUV
Leapmotor continued its expansion in Nepal with the B03X, another compact electric SUV competing in the increasingly crowded Rs 40–50 lakh range.
The B03X was introduced with a launch price of Rs 46.99 lakh for the Design ProMax variant.
The SUV uses a 53 kWh battery and a 145 kW electric motor. Its claimed WLTP range stands at 382 km.
The B03X is particularly important because it enters a segment where Nepalese buyers now have a rapidly expanding list of electric SUVs to choose from.
Instead of competing solely on price, Leapmotor is also using equipment, performance and technology to differentiate the B03X from smaller and less powerful EVs.
Denza B5 Pushes Plug-In Hybrid Technology Upmarket
At the premium end of Day 2, Denza introduced the B5, a plug-in hybrid SUV sold through Cimex, BYD's distributor in Nepal.
The B5 was launched at Rs 2.97 crore, putting it firmly into the premium SUV category.
The SUV combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with BYD's DMO Super Hybrid system and dual electric motors.
The combined system produces up to 425 kW and 760 Nm, while the vehicle uses a 31.8 kWh LFP battery.
The B5 is also equipped with all-wheel drive and is designed to offer both electric-only driving for shorter trips and petrol-powered flexibility for longer journeys.
Its claimed combined range reaches around 850 km, while the electric-only range is around 80 km depending on specification.
What Day 2 Changed From Day 1
The difference between the first two days of NAIMA 2026 is becoming clear.
Day 1 was dominated by a wider mix of new launches across EVs, petrol SUVs, hybrids and large premium vehicles. Day 2, by comparison, pushed the electric and electrified side of the market further.
BYD's refreshed Atto family gives buyers more choices at the lower and middle ends of the company's lineup. Hongqi brings another premium EV brand into Nepal, while Haval and Leapmotor add more competition to the electric SUV market.
Denza's B5 moves in the opposite direction, showing that plug-in hybrid technology is not being limited to affordable vehicles. Instead, it is also becoming part of Nepal's premium SUV market.
Not Every Vehicle at the Expo Was a Day 2 Launch
One important distinction in our daily coverage is that a vehicle being displayed at NAIMA does not automatically mean it launched on that particular day.
Several vehicles that appeared in the earlier version of this Day 2 article actually belong to Day 1. These include the MG Majestor, BAIC BJ30e, Wuling Eksion, Wuling Darion and Mahindra XEV 9S, which were already reported as launches on August 11.
They have therefore been removed from this Day 2 launch list.
Likewise, the Chery Q, Nissan Tekton and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid are not repeated here because they were already covered as Day 1 developments.
Keeping the daily reports separated this way makes it easier to follow exactly when each vehicle entered the Nepali market.
The Honest Read
Day 2 was a strong day for electric SUVs.
BYD probably made the biggest impact by updating its entire Atto family at once. The new Atto 2 Essential is particularly interesting because it creates a more accessible entry point between the Atto 1 and Atto 2 Premium.
Hongqi's E-HS4 is another significant development because it brings a new luxury EV brand into Nepal, while the Haval Jolion Max EV and Leapmotor B03X add even more competition in the increasingly important Rs 40–60 lakh SUV category.
At the other end of the market, Denza's B5 shows that Nepal's electrification story is no longer limited to small or affordable EVs. Premium plug-in hybrids are also beginning to establish a presence.
And that may be the biggest takeaway from Day 2: Nepal's car market is no longer simply moving from petrol to electric. It is becoming a market where EVs, hybrids and plug-in hybrids are competing alongside one another across almost every price segment.
